vorbesti de Sedana ?! .. nu era vorba de un "add-on" mai exact, o colectie de clase si dll-uri ?!

With the recent release of Visual FoxPro 9.0, the Visual FoxPro team at Microsoft is now working on a new project, code-named Sedna, that takes advantage of enhancements in Visual FoxPro 9.0. The primary goal of Sedna is to expand on the ability of Visual FoxPro-based solutions to better integrate with other Microsoft products and technologies.

Features in Sedna will target Visual FoxPro interoperability with application components created by using Visual Studio 2005, the .NET Framework 2.0, and SQL Server 2005. Sedna will also help improve the ability for Visual FoxPro 9.0 solutions to be successfully deployed on the upcoming new Windows operating system Microsoft Vista (formerly code named Longhorn). Sedna is currently scheduled to be released in the first half of 2007 and will require Visual FoxPro 9.0.

As indicated in prior public statements, Microsoft does not plan to merge Visual FoxPro into Visual Studio .NET, nor are there plans to create a new Visual FoxPro .NET programming language. Visual FoxPro will remain stand-alone Win32 based, and will run on 64-bit Windows in 32-bit compatibility mode. For deploying Visual FoxPro solutions that use components based on Microsoft .NET, Sedna will provide improvements for those components using COM and .NET interoperability.

Ceva hint-uri in legatura cu Vista stie cineva ? Ca dupa ce scrie aici :

Se pare ca Vfp 10 nu va mai aparea, conform unui comunicat Microsoft :-(

MS va oferi suport pentru vfp pina in 2015. Va trebui sa ne apucam de .NET, ASP, SQL Server ca astea-s indragite de MS. Pacat!

Se pare ca cei de la ETecnologia sunt pusi bine pe treaba cu compilatorul de VFP.NET
Am citit pe UT ca vor sa faca VFP.Runtime open source, ca se va putea lucra in VS sau SharpDevelop, ca vor exista extensii specifi NET Framework, acces la toate clasele acesteia, fara interop, generator de rapoarte,etc.

Lucruri care par incredibile, avand in vedere incetineala cu care a mers dezvoltarea VFP

Daca s-a putut cu Python, se poate si cu VFP

Primele doua link-uri zic ca MS va face, citez "portions of core code opensource". Cu alte cuvinte - codul din VFP9.exe va fi open-source. Din pacate aceasta informatie e falsa, MS si Alan Griver n-au zis niciodata asta. Griver are un "newsletter for community" in care spune ca add-on-ul SEDNA va fi opensource, nu codul in VFP.

The components written as part of Sedna will be placed in the community for further enhancement as part of our shared source initiative. You can expect to see the Sedna code on CodePlex sometime before the end of summer 2007.
